Are you leaving the lights on when nobody’s home? Do you find yourself frequently replacing light bulbs that burn out? You can take simple steps to solve these problems and make sure the lighting in your home is being used efficiently to save money on your next utility bill.
Replacing incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs can help you cut back on your lighting costs. Each CFL uses 75 percent less energy and lasts up to 10 times longer. Light emitting diode (LED) light bulbs will save you even more energy. According to ENERGY STAR, an LED light bulb lasts at least 25 times longer than incandescent lighting, and 2.5 times longer than typical fluorescent lighting.
If you think you don’t have energy-efficient lighting in your home, review the lighting section of the energy audit checklist. Watch the video for additional help on conducting your own energy audit.
