Spruce to Pawnee Transmission Line Rebuild Project

CPS Energy is proposing to add a second circuit to its existing Spruce to Pawnee 345 kV transmission line in Bexar, Wilson, and Karnes Counties, Texas. To add the second circuit, CPS Energy proposes to rebuild approximately 46 miles of existing transmission line infrastructure between the CPS Energy J.K. Spruce Substation and the South Texas Electric Cooperative (STEC) Pawnee Substation. The new and existing circuits on the rebuilt structures are currently anticipated to be located primarily within the CPS Energy right-of-way for the existing circuit.

The reconstruction of the transmission line is necessary to support the accelerating growth in San Antonio and South Texas. It will also increase the reliability of Texas’ electric grid by adding another path for electric transmission. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) Board of Directors endorsed the project as critical to the reliability of the ERCOT System on April 23, 2024.

CPS Energy has filed its CCN Application for the Spruce to Pawnee Transmission Line Project with the Public Utility Commission of Texas under docket number 57849. The filed application can be found on the PUC Interchange website here. Digital copies of the complete application and attachments are available on this website and the PUC Interchange.
